CityFHEPS

A NYC rental-assistance voucher that helps households experiencing or at risk of homelessness pay rent.

CityFHEPS (the City Fighting Homelessness and Eviction Prevention Supplement) is a New York City rental-assistance program that issues a rent supplement to households who are homeless or at risk of eviction. Like Section 8, it pays a portion of the rent toward an apartment that meets program standards and rent caps.

And like Section 8, it is protected lawful income under the city’s source-of-income discrimination law — a landlord cannot reject an applicant or screen a listing because the rent would be paid with a CityFHEPS voucher.

In a CRM, CityFHEPS is modeled as a regulation/subsidy type alongside Section 8 so that the program rent caps and source-of-income protections are visible at screening and pricing time.

This definition is general information about a New York City rental or rent-regulation concept, not legal advice. The rules change and often turn on facts specific to a building, unit, and tenancy — confirm the current rule and consult a qualified attorney before acting on any individual matter.
